Encoding of the Han Xin code

The Han Xin Code, also known as Chinese Sensible Code or Chinese Sensible Text Code, is a two-dimensional matrix barcode specifically designed to encode Chinese text efficiently. Developed by the Chinese company Han Xin Code Co., Ltd., it aims to provide a reliable and compact method for encoding Chinese characters, numeric data, and byte data.

Encoding Structure and Methodology

1. Basic Structure

Han Xin Code uses a matrix of square modules arranged in a grid format. The size of the matrix can vary depending on the amount of data to be encoded and the error correction level chosen.

Each module can either be black (data module) or white (background module), forming the visual pattern of the barcode.

2. Data Encoding

Character Set: Han Xin Code supports the encoding of Chinese characters (Simplified and Traditional), numeric digits, and byte data.

Character Mapping: Chinese characters are encoded using a two-step process involving character mapping and byte encoding.

Character Mapping: Each Chinese character is first mapped to a unique numeric identifier based on its position in a predefined database or dictionary.

Byte Encoding: The numeric identifier is then converted into a byte sequence using specific encoding rules.

3. Encoding Process

Step-by-Step Example:

Let's encode the Chinese phrase '你好,世界!' (Hello, World!) into a Han Xin Code.

Character Conversion:

'你' maps to identifier 1

'好' maps to identifier 2

',' (comma) maps to identifier 3

'世' maps to identifier 4

'界' maps to identifier 5

'!' (exclamation mark) maps to identifier 6

Byte Conversion:

Convert each identifier into a byte sequence based on predefined rules.

Byte Sequence:

For example, identifiers 1 to 6 might correspond to byte sequences like 01, 02, 03, 04, 05, and 06 respectively.

Matrix Placement:

Arrange the byte sequences within the matrix grid according to the encoding rules. The placement typically considers error correction mechanisms and ensures the barcode remains scannable even if part of it is damaged or obscured.

4. Error Correction

Han Xin Code incorporates error correction mechanisms to enhance reliability and readability. Error correction ensures that even if parts of the barcode are damaged or unreadable, the encoded data can still be recovered.

Error correction levels vary, with higher levels offering greater resilience against damage but requiring more space within the barcode.

5. Quiet Zone and Format Information

Like other matrix barcodes, Han Xin Code includes a quiet zone around the barcode to prevent interference from other graphical elements or printing artifacts.

Format information embedded within the barcode provides details such as error correction level, version information, and other parameters necessary for decoding.

Example Matrix:

Here's a conceptual illustration of how the encoded data might be structured in a Han Xin Code matrix:

+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+

| 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6 | | | | |

+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+

| | | | | | | | | | |

+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+

| | | | | | | | | | |

+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+

| | | | | | | | | | |

+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+

| | | | | | | | | | |

+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+

| | | | | | | | | | |

+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+

| | | | | | | | | | |

+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+

| | | | | | | | | | |

+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+

Conclusion

Han Xin Code is a specialized barcode format optimized for efficiently encoding Chinese text, numeric data, and byte data. Its design ensures that Chinese characters are accurately represented within a compact matrix structure, supported by robust error correction mechanisms for enhanced reliability in scanning and decoding. By following structured encoding rules and utilizing a matrix grid layout, Han Xin Code addresses the unique challenges of encoding and decoding Chinese language characters in barcode form.
