Padding of the Aztec Code

Padding in Aztec Code involves two main aspects:

1.Bit Stuffing and Padding to Codeword Boundary:

After bit stuffing (if necessary), the data string is padded to the next codeword boundary.

A single '1' bit is appended to the end of the data string to ensure it reaches the codeword boundary.

If appending this '1' bit would result in a codeword that consists entirely of '1's, the last '1' bit is changed to '0'. This '0' bit is treated as a bit-stuffing bit and ignored by the decoder.

The decoder must handle and ignore any trailing partial codeword that consists solely of '1's.

2.Prefixing with Zero Bits for Alignment:

If the total number of data bits available in the symbol is not a multiple of the codeword size, the data string is prefixed with enough '0' bits to fill up the remaining space.

These '0' bits are not included in the computation of the check words (error correction codes) but are used solely for padding purposes to align the data to the codeword boundary.

Example:

Suppose the codeword size is 8 bits (for illustration purposes):

After encoding and possibly bit stuffing, the data might end at a point that is not on an 8-bit boundary.

If there are 5 bits remaining to reach the next 8-bit boundary, one '1' bit would be appended, making it 6 bits.

If 6 bits (ending in '11') would form an all-ones codeword (which is invalid), the last '1' would be changed to '0' (resulting in '10').

Additionally, if there are less than 8 bits left after encoding, '0' bits would be prefixed to align the data to the nearest 8-bit boundary.

In summary, padding ensures that the encoded data conforms to the codeword structure required by the Aztec Code, while ensuring that no unintended patterns (like all-ones codewords) disrupt the decoding process.
