RAP columns structure of MicroPDF417

In MicroPDF417 barcodes, the Row Address Patterns (RAP) play a crucial role in encoding row information within the barcode.

Here's a structured explanation of how RAP columns are organized:

RAP Column Structure

MicroPDF417 barcodes organize RAPs into columns. The barcode can have one to four data columns, and the number of columns affects which RAP columns are used:

1.One or Two Data Columns:

Uses Left RAP and Right RAP columns only.

2.Three or Four Data Columns:

Uses Left RAP, Center RAP, and Right RAP columns.

Characteristics of RAPs

Each RAP consists of 10 modules, which are divided into:

3 black bars (modules representing black bars).

3 white spaces (modules representing white spaces).

The size (number of modules) of bars and spaces can vary from 1 to 5. Importantly, each RAP row starts with a black bar and ends with a white space. The Right RAP also includes an additional completing black bar.

RAP Values and Row Identification

RAPs are assigned values from 1 to 52. These values are structured into specific sequences known as Row Number Assignments (RNA). The combination of these RNA sequences for Left, Center (if applicable), and Right RAPs uniquely identifies the version of the MicroPDF417 barcode and determines the correspondence between the RAP number and the row number within the barcode image.

Example

For instance, in a MicroPDF417 barcode with 4 columns and 4 rows:

Left RAP: Starts from 47, ends at 50.

Center RAP: Starts from 19, ends at 22.

Right RAP: Starts from 43, ends at 46.

These sequences (47-50 for Left, 19-22 for Center, and 43-46 for Right) define the specific version of the 4x4 MicroPDF417 barcode. The barcode reader uses these sequences to decode and identify the row numbers based on the corresponding RAP numbers embedded in the barcode.

Conclusion

Understanding the structure of RAP columns in MicroPDF417 barcodes involves grasping how rows are encoded using specific sequences of black bars and white spaces within Left, Center (if used), and Right columns. This structured approach ensures reliable decoding and accurate identification of row information from the barcode image.
